A heat emergency declared in the South West. Air conditioned premises to be opened up for the old folk. Public health announcements telling you to drink fourteen glasses of water or wine a day. Angus thinks he'll be able to comply with that. The beer and absinthe crowd already settled down under the arches in readiness for a long, hot, day.
Air conditioning probably isn't commonplace there. That only just occurred to me. I have to admit, living in Arizona I sometimes listen to people complaining about temperatures anything much below 115 and I admit I sort of, well, don't feel much sympathy. It is probably comparable to how I feel when my husband complains about some small pain considering the fact I gave birth to his 9lb 4oz daughter with no meds . . . and it was all his fault she was so large because he is 6'4", and I am not, and no, he will never be allowed to forget it!
ReplyDeleteBut here in Az we have icy cold a/c everywhere, even cars have a/c. It is a wonderful, wonderful thing. The summer air conditioning bill, not so wonderful, but I would hate to be without it.
I hate those sort of temperatures myself - hard to do anything, impossible to sleep, don't want to drive anywhere... and we have air conditioning available but rarely use it to avoid paying all summer... occasionally we run it last thing at night to cool the house to let us sleep - bliss.
ReplyDeleteWe live in an old farmhouse too - NZ style - inclined towards cavelike in winter, but highly desirable mid summer. I hope your house copes with these temperatures too :)
I had to turn the heat on today, so it's hard to imagine.
ReplyDeleteThe beer and absinthe crowd look like quite the motley crew!
Let's hope that doesn't translate to fourteen glasses of beer and absinthe for your friends at the café/bar...
ReplyDeleteLa Canicule, eh?
ReplyDeleteStay indoors and drink lots. Hydrate your old people. Remember 2003.
So of course you're having the fourteen glasses of wine a day to cool off right?? Stay inside as much as possible.....
ReplyDeleteOh my what about the cows? Do they have a shaded area in the field? I know they have water, thanks to you and The Font...bless you both.
Please stay out of the sun!
ReplyDeletei would be in your pool drinking my 14 glasses of water!
ReplyDeleteHope you get relief soon!
ReplyDeleteIf the sunflowers are any indication of how parched everything is, you'd better stock up on your supply!
ReplyDeleteAfter 14 glasses of wine I'd not be feeling the heat, that's for sure! Take care and wishing you some cooler weather soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad the beer and absinthe crowd are staying hydrated.
ReplyDeleteWe're shivering this morning...two bar heater completely ineffective...
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
We've been having temperatures over 100 all week. But no sunflowers...
ReplyDeleteThat is some serious heat! We've been feeling the same thing this summer. I hope it breaks soon!
