A morning spent in the fancy builders office . ' The font ' has decided that the bathrooms in the Rickety Old Farmhouse need to be modernized. No more formica counters or 1960's avocado green fittings.
The fancy builders office is not just an office it's an ' atelier '. We know this because there is a big sign above the front door saying '' Welcome to our atelier. Furniture, kitchens, windows made to your specifications ". Atelier is clearly an upmarket French version of workshop and justifies adding 25% to the price. Angus can't help but notice the fancy builders very shiny, very large, very new Mercedes parked outside.
Surprisingly, the 'atelier' is full of bean bags. In the centre of the workshop a very large orange teddy bear bean bag lying on its back on a hammock. This is unusual, even for France. It seems the builder is a distributor of these bizarre products. For the next hour Angus daydreams while ' the font ' and the fancy builder discuss taps and tiles. Questions about colours or textures are replied to with what Angus hopes are suitably enthusiastic noises.
The builder asks for a deposit. The 'team' will start on May 15th. Angus asks if this is a firm or an indicative date . '' It is absolutely fixed Monsieur " says the builder without even a hint of a smile.
To the engravers for dog tags for Sophie and Bob. 'The font' asks if Bob is a suitable name for a dog. '' Wouldn't a good Swedish name be better ? ". Mats, Lars, Bo, Folke, Sven ? No way. This boy is undoubtedly Bob the Dog.
The IKEA catalog might have some interesting names if Bob doesn't work out! :)
ReplyDeleteHow about 'Odd' oh yeah, that's Norwegian. It'll be interesting if the work starts and continues on the date.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Surely, a marital compromise is in order. Bo(b).
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference a letter makes ! Bob he remains.
DeleteI like the name Bob! One of my favorite dog books is about a Golden that was named Bob. But some questioned my naming Todd after our first golden that was named that too--But 'Todd' was always who I thought he was meant to be, just as you think Bob is, so don't let anyone convince you otherwise!
ReplyDeleteIf my Brownie wasn't so jealous, I would use this Bob and Sophie photo as my screen saver...it's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about you, but I have noted May 15th for bathroom remodel start date...smile. I don't want to rain on your parade, but bathroom remodels are a HEADACHE...hope it all goes well.
I like Bob (Baub) pronounced in a high fulatin way....chuckling here.
So tell us, did the orange teddy bear end up at the ROF for the little ones?
Folke... can't beat that..... there they come Bob and Sophie.... have a great day in Southern France Susanne and the happy crew
ReplyDeleteI would like to take bets on "the team" arriving on May 15!!!
ReplyDeleteNew puppies and new bathrooms. What a boisterous combination for May!
ReplyDeleteAnd Bob it has to be.
Unless maybe... Wallander?
I think he'll be adorable no matter what you call him! Did you not counter with a strong Scottish monniker like Colin or Dougal?
ReplyDeleteNot many Scottish names that aren't already taken . We thought, briefly, of Kenneth.
DeleteDogs always get their own nicknames after you have them for a while anyway. Bob ans Sophie are perfect choices we think!
ReplyDeleteI like the name BO BE
ReplyDeleteSophie looks to be very content in loving care of big brother Bob. Is he really that much larger?
ReplyDeleteMight I suggest that the bathroom remodels wait until the pups are through their gnawing stage?
Look at it this way. By the time the builders, plumbers, electricians , decorators and the womens cooperative have finished work Bob and Sophie will be well and truly socialized.
DeleteBob - a great name for dog or man. Glad you are sticking to your guns or bathrooms, as the case may be.
ReplyDeleteGive them Swedish middle names. Bob Ingmar, Sophie Mai might be nice! I'm really enjoying the daily fix of Bob and Sophie puppy pics.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten used to Bob. Poor Sophie doesn't have a hard consonant sound in her name. This may be a problem for her. Dogs respond to and hear the hard sounds best. Gussie would be cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious picture of big brother protecting baby sister :) My ex-husband and his friends are avid bird hunters/bird dog owners, and one of his friends names every pointer he gets Bob so he never forgets what name to call out in all the excitement in the field :)
ReplyDeleteI have said this before but don't mind repeating. Bob is a most perfect dog name, don't let them talk you out of it. However, I am less thrilled with Sophie, its very popular today, but if she were my dog, with a brother Bob, she would be Annie!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
I am English, my husband American. Our daughter gave our dog a Japanese name. According to the translation website she used it means something quite lovely " child born of happiness" although I have no idea how reliable that site was, we might have named the poor dog slippery noodle for all I know.
ReplyDeleteBob is a good, regular name.
What? Too late to change names now. They are Bob and Sophie.
ReplyDeletethank youuu
