New Years morning . Where the road makes a turn to the right a white van stranded in the mud. Sometime during the night someone failed to notice the bend and carried straight on . A set of foorprints lead from the driver and passenger doors to the road.

We try a new cafe in the market town. '' Frog in heaven " .  I wonder aloud why it's called that . ' The font ' points silently to a large frog above the bar.

The window display in the kitchen store by the market hall. Centre stage a judderingly horrible statuette. Porcelain or plaster of Paris ?  The biggest surprise ? The price. €89. That's $120 at todays exchange rate.

  3. Is that the same bend in the road where the phonebox in the wilderness is? Maybe the van occupants couldn't believe what they were seeing and veered off.
Strange name eateries almost make me curious to try them out, but Frog in Heaven takes the cake.
Angus you made me look up "judderingly", and that is now the first new thing I have learned for the new year...thanks!

and oddly . . . one of the things from this post i've learned is that france isn't always the harbinger of good taste it's purported to be! oh. or maybe that's just about paris? la la.
i love your little village and surrounding towns anyway. we judder on!

  5. Some may or may not know about my deep seated fear of frogs. One with wings....I may need some therapy. At least the van did not come near any trees. That would not be a good start to the new year. As for the statuette, it is interesting I must say.

  6. I guess somebody celebrated a little too much last night! I'm betting the process of getting the van out of the field results in amusement. I wonder, do they play "It's Not Easy Being Green" at Frog Heaven?

  11. Happy New Years to you and yours.
That statuette, the last photo, fouls your whole post, doesn't it. Hideous! Absolutely hideous.
