Beautiful.

A photo that made me stop in my tracks. She looks so beautiful. As if she's just fallen asleep.

  1. SHE has seen that picture before. Amazing. And to think she was dressed up.....with gloves.

  2. I suspect she found the serenity in death that she did not find in life. She's at peace.

  3. the juxtaposition of the calmness of her body and the devastation of the car is simply stunning. I'm not sure I could use the word Beautiful, but it certainly highlights how little we understand of death.

  4. Wow...I agree with you Angus...It does look like she is just sleeping and she does look so peaceful. But her thoughts before her actions would have been far from that. And I think you would have to agree that what would have been more beautiful would be for her to have lived a full life of happiness, possibly meeting someone new and passing on or sharing that soulful spirit that the photo captured.

  5. Wow. Many emotions looking at the pic then reading the captions.

  6. There is much of interest to read about this beautiful young woman. In a suicide note she requested that no one be allowed to see her body, that she be cremated and no services be done. And yet, she did this in one of the busiest places in the world, with her death picture being shown in many places. I would suspect she would know this would happen, but who knows what her thoughts might have been.

  9. She is hauntingly at peace amid the wreckage of the limousine. I too, see her beauty.

  10. I think it's a great visual representation of what suicide leaves behind. She looks beautiful in her final slumber, but the wreckage she left behind must have been terribly painful for those who loved her to deal with. Suicide is so hard to understand, especially when it's a person you cared about and who was a part of your life. I hope that seeing her looking so peaceful helped to ease the grief of those she left behind.

  11. That is an incredible representation. Wow.

And, from your previous post - yes, they are expecting a big tip. That was meant to be a "big hint"!

  14. Beautiful or not, it's very sad she felt so desperate she took her own life.Thinking of what I would do to my family and especially how my mother would grieve has always stopped me - we really should think of the people we leave behind!!

  15. Very sad...always brings me back to the question of whether suicide is an act of strength or weakness

  16. Her right foot looks rather strange...she seems to be wearing gloves but not shoes

  17. Disturbing photo. Is it art or death in the hands of Warhol.

  18. As I read your description of the linked photo, this image immediately came to mind. I first saw this photo decades ago in the volume of Life magazine photos which sat on our coffee table. I poured over every iconic image in the book and remember staring at this sleeping beauty on her bed of crumpled metal.

  19. I had never seen this photo before. She of course she is a beautiful woman. Her long lashes resting on her cheeks like that, her dark lips and the perfect brows, her prim clothes and the shiny wreckage of the car. It all LOOKS beautiful, but it isn't. I find it really disturbing, the contrast between what she must have been feeling and the beauty of the photo.

  20. If that happened today, we'd know all about Evelyn and her mother and what one can only guess is a history of mental illness - "breaking news at noon!" The family would probably sue the owners of the building for not making it jump-proof. A picture from and of another time in so many respects.
