Bob and Sophie ?

Dinner in a hotel restaurant in a little market town in deepest deepest France profonde. At one table 15 firemen celebrating the retirement of a colleague.  At another table 11 unsmiling gendarmes. By the window a dozen ever so slightly tipsy farmers in jeans and T-shirts. From time to time they all join in one gigantic cross restaurant conversation .

We are seated in splendid isolation by the reception desk.  ' The font ' orders Vichysoisse. The waitress appears with the soup and then pipes a pyramid of aerated cream on top. '' Voila ! " she says with evident satisfaction. Both of us are rendered speechless. We are still admiring the ' blob ' of artificial cream when the waitress returns and scatters a teaspoon of dried fruit over the soup. ' The font ' comments on the unique way of preparing Vichysoisse. The waitress takes this as a compliment.

Long chat with the vet. He thinks getting puppies at 12 weeks is just fine . In fact he thinks that 12 weeks is the perfect date for the mother. We'll carry on driving north and make up our minds later today. ' The font ' has reassured Angus that Sophie will be more than happy to accompany him and ' Bob ' to the rugby on Sunday afternoon. The fact the pups already have names probably tells you all you need to know.

  6. I like Bob already. He has a very Wilfee look on him. Smart boy has already marked you by licking your ears. Sophie would be good for the font.. sweet girl! Sometimes girls do love rugby too. Congrats to both of you! Puppy power and lotta carpet surfing soon.

  8. I have just returned from France, so I am catching up with the wonderful news.
    They are beautiful.
Probably nothing to be concerned about, but I just got a slight uneasy feeling at seeing yesterdays pictures of the Mum. She looked very tired.
    I left a comment.
    All the very best.

  10. Just lovely....

We found the Wilf and Digby blogs late in 2011, just following the loss of our beloved Bearded Collie after fourteen wonderful years. Your beautiful accounts of their escapades inspired us to 'rebuild' and we recently acquired Kitty, our delightful GBGV pup.
Wishing you much love and happiness in your own 'rebuild'.

  11. Angus, it's early here, but I was anxious to see what the decision had been. I was taken by Bob and Sophie and I didn't say it yesterday, but Sophie really pulled at my heartstrings. Shy dogs do take a little more time, but exposing her to the sights, sounds and smells something like a Rugby game and the cafe each day and wherever life takes you, along with lots and lots of positive reinforcement and experiences, I think you will find will do so much to help this precious little girl to blossom.

  20. I'm so happy for all of you. I have been taking care of a shih tzu and her litter of four puppies from the start for my ex sister in law they are 6 weeks weeks old now, and she can sell them at six weeks in CA and that is fine with the vet here as long as they are eating and drinking on their own.

  21. Congratulations! It is going to be a very long month, waiting for Bob and Sophie to come to the Farmhouse. Oh, and every girl pup I have owned has loved to watch outdoor sports. One (a wire fox terrier) loved to play soccer if given the chance.

  25. What a wonderful message from you today. I am counting down the days till the first of April when you are home from your trip. You don't even have to up pack :), just go and get the fur babies and bring them home. They are so cute. Can't wait till we see them each day and read about their daily life. It will be so much fun for you and " the font" and all of us that read your blog.
My Westie came home at three months and he is a wonderful dog. So many breeders want let them go till they are three months. My Maine Coon cat couldn't come home with me till she was three months old. She has been fine also.
Can't wait to hear more about the new "pons" :)

  28. Oh, what joy! As you know, many of us have waited with baited breath for this moment. Congratulations Sophie and Bob for finding two of the best parents in the world. And just to mention, Rémy came to us at 9 months and is the most well adjusted and happy boy we've ever seen at 16 months. It can be done, and you will do it.

  35. Will the rickety old farmhouse now be renamed or will we have an extra " Bob and Sophie discover France " blog :-)))

  36. Are you having "father of a daughter" anxiety, Angus? Little Sophie will have you wrapped around her silky paw in no time flat. She'll be your rugby companion, I'm sure. All concerns about the breeder aside, did you connect with Bob and Sophie from the start? That you love them, that's the thing.
Was their mother bred on site? She certainly seems sound and of good temperament.
