What does it say ?



The new car is waiting in the showroom. Grey paint, tinted windows , dog guard and black interior. They say you can tell a lot about people from the car they drive.  This is anonymity on wheels. Not the sort of car that is likely to be stolen. 

' The font ' looks at the Skoda and wonders why the rear doors don't seem to match those at the front. Our new vehicle rather short on style. In fact it looks as if it's been assembled from a left over parts bin at the factory.  Being France the dealership presents us with a bottle of champagne for the journey home.

At the Rickety Old Farmhouse ' the font ' notices  no less than six scratches on the inside of the windscreen. Each about an inch long.  We'd thought they were mud splatters. ' The font ' takes the car back to the showroom. '' Wasn't like that when we sold it to you Love " says the salesman. ' Well I certainly didn't do it ' replies ' the font '. '' You might be right but you'd be surprised what people get up to in cars " comes the replyNonplussed  ' the font ' returns home - scratches in place.

  1. Reminds me of when I was working in Oklahoma and given a ridiculously enormous car from the dregs of the company car pool to drive for the duration. I asked an American friend what driving a Chevrolet Caprice Classic said about me. Back came a succinct answer. "If it's new, it says you're old and if it's old, you're poor."
    It was old.

  3. Nonchalant answer of the salesman - well too me this car looks very sophisticated - think were I am located - nobody bothers about cars and your identity here in Southern Italy - lol have fun with it! Love from Susanne, daisy, foxiie and kiri (they would love to take a ride)

  4. I like the car, and am really sorry about the scratches! I remembered reading that the color car you choose also tells something about you--So I looked it up this morning and the article I found said: Blue cars are chosen by loyal, trustworthy people who relish peace, calm and tranquility, and practicality is a priority for those who drive a blue coloured car. ~~~Now I wonder what my silver, Dodge Caravan says about me? :-)

  5. My dearest Angus, my Internet friend, you can reach out to Skoda.com and place your complaint, and then the dealer will have to deal with the windscreen scratches. I am not impressed with this treatment of the Font at the dealership, so go around them....you can't have a new car with defects that are noticeable.
    In the meanwhile have a great weekend driving all over the countryside with the top open.

  6. A Roomster! My husband pushed for one when we got here but I pushed back, although a test drive was good. And lots of room for dogs inside. Is the dog guard a little hint of things to come, perhaps?

  7. i hope i don't offend anyone with this comment . . .
    but i detest car dealerships. they love you with that smarmy false attitude when you're "buying" and the
    very SECOND you own the car you are . . . well... let's say the font was treated the same way they treat everyone AFTER the fact. it's shameful. infuriating. and i NEVER take my car back to a dealership for service. aaarrrrggggh. let loose the dogs upon them. if the font says the scratches were there they were THERE. crooked pipsqueaks.

  8. Fabulous windows for dogs! Lot's of visibility. I think its perfect.
    And as for anonymity, I've had to give that up here since buying my pistachio green Fiat.
    I miss it.

  9. Presuming here that you don't intend to drive up to the George V in it, its perfect for its intended use.

    Speak with Skoda directly about the scratches in the glass. The dealers get black marks when the customer calls the manufacturer. Those scratches will be quite annoying on a day with lots of sun glare.

  10. Agree with Kari, (and I'm reminiscing on dreadful Alfa experiences) speaking directly with Skoda is definitely the best solution. Happy motoring - we cannot wait to hear about possible dog acquisition(s).

  12. What VirginiaC and Karl both said. Scratches can be removed quickly and easily by people who know how to do it -- such as the dealer, once the home office leans on him after your complaints.
